Cat Food
If you are hoping to improve your cat’s health,
choosing the right cat food is an important thing to do. When choosing
cat food, remember the following things:
• Check the label – Making sure that the
cat food is nutritionally complete is an important thing to do. When
checking out the label, remember that cats need more protein, vitamin
A and vitamin B than dogs typically do. Because the Association of American
Feed Control requires nutrition information on food bags, you should
only buy cat food that has this label on it.
• Look for meat – When checking the label,
make sure that there is a meat that is listed as the first ingredient
in the cat food. Ingredients are listed in descending order. It is important
that the cat food includes meat so that your cat will be able to get
the nutrients and protein he needs.
• Skip the carbs – This does not mean
that you need to put your cat on the Atkins diet, but it does mean that
you should try to help your cats avoid the carbs in cat food. The meat
gives them all the carbohydrates they need, so look to see if there
are other ingredients that include carbs as well. Cat food that includes
corn, wheat or flour as one of the top ingredients is probably not a
good choice.
